Community Use of Schools
Did you know that schools in Newfoundland and Labrador can be used for more than just
learning? When classes are done for the day, many schools open their doors to the
community. That means your group might be able to use a school gym, classroom, kitchen, or
other space for events, programs, or meetings.
Who Can Use School Spaces?
- Not-for-profit community youth groups
- Community groups
- Sports teams
- Individuals running private functions
- Private commercial groups
What Spaces are Available?
Whether you are planning a fitness class, a community meeting, a fundraiser, or a youth program, there may be a space for you. Depending on the school and your group type, you may be able to use:
- Gymnasiums for sports, fitness activities, or weddings
- Classrooms for meetings, seminars, or workshops
- Kitchens for cooking programs or catering events
- Cafeterias or other large spaces for gatherings
How to Apply?
- Contact the school to ask about availability.
- Fill out a Community Use Rental and License Agreement form.
- Review the rules for safety, cleanliness, and respectful use.
Please note that some uses are free, especially for youth and not-for-profit groups. Others may have a fee, depending on the type of event and group.
